Hiya

any recommendations on a new laptop for my mum, she is 81 and only really uses it for internet banking and facebook lol

The one she has now is about 8yrs old and very very slow. She would like to treat herself to a new one, tomorrow is her first birthday since my dad died and she is looking at it that it is a present from him as he bought her the one she has now.

As I said she doesn't really do a lot on it, checks her bank account, checks in on facebook to see what all the family are up to, might do a bit of looking at clothes/shoes shopping but doesn't actually buy online,

what we are looking for is a basic laptop that is quite fast.

thanks in advance for any help

  • First check out https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2436849 (how to speed up)
But I would suggest let her try a Linux live boot and see how she gets on with that, it would be a cheaper option for what she needs, I run Ubuntu on a Samsung Netbook which is pretty slow (relatively compared to what I normally use) but it is great for use when I am out and about, and is probably not as fast as her 8 year old laptop if using Linux(especially she can get on with it and you install it native / dual boot)
