Help Needed-Benefits advice with marriage break up

Some help would really be appreciated here.
I've seperated from my wife for a fair period now, but i have continued to pay all the family bills ( mortgage, house expenses, etc).
I know that if we formally seperate it is likely my ex will be entited to benefits, she's working, self employed with a trading profit of around £10k, which is limited by the fact she isn't in the best of health and receives DLA.
I want to ensure they ( ex and 2 daughters) are financially ok but really need to move on financially and start to rebuild my life, quite genuinely i am not trying to get out of my responsibilities! I'm also self-employed.
I need advice on the benefits that are appropriate and where to go to get a feel for what is the likely position before i/we go to the benefit agencies.
Any advice/ tips/ pointers would really be appreciated.
TIA.

I am a fee charging WoM Mortgage broker.
I now no longer give information and opinion within the Mortgage boards, because a number of posters who, having approached me professionally, agreed my fee-which has been been made very clear at the outset, taken my advice (normally cancelling a [home visit] meeting at short notice) have then approached one of the fee-free brokers on here to arrange the very same deal I have advised.
Whilst I totally concur with the ethos of "money saving"- abusing the goodwill of a professional who provides a quality service is taking it too far!
