R5+ ok so we know that's bad!! Has been a obvious drop in temperature the last few days, interesting to see what's coming though!0

storms, few days yet I think. Coasts again probable. My wish is that the gov give up HS train and spend a fraction of that on helping flood victims. The stress must be killing people, MPs are ok in their ivory towers and the rest of us feel powerless to help. Seeing them srtuggle is heartbreaking0

Well said, Kittie, I couldn't agree more.
I worked for some years as an insurance claims negotiator, long before my then husband and I bought a house, and I would never contemplate any property that was located near any likely flood zone - burst pipes can still happen, though even then sensible steps will minimise the risk, but the current spate of new houses being built on known flood plains is mind-boggling. The extraordinarily wet weather recently has led to flooding of houses whose location would not necessarily suggest they were at risk, and it should be a wake-up call to all the greedy developers and councils who simply don't want to see beyond their sales.
Still thinking of winter preps, my DD and her partner bought a cottage last summer which has heating and hot water by LPG cylinders. It has a combi boiler which means all their hot water is from the boiler, there is no hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard. Here I have an oil-fired boiler and on the odd occasion I've been careless enough to run out, I've been able to switch on the electric immersion heater for hot water, and I have portable oil-filled electric radiators for emergency use, as well as an open fireplace and a good stock of coal, kindling and seasoned wood. DD says the gauge isn't accurate though they said at Christmas that the gas must be close to running out. I try, without success, to persuade them not to let their cars run as far as they dare after the fuel light comes on ( I never let my old 4WD drop below 1/4 tank), and it seems they're going to have to learn the hard way to order LPG in future before they run out. They have borrowed the electric radiators and my dehumidifier this evening, they showered here earlier. At least they have an electric oven and microwave so even without use of the gas hob, they can still cook. It's a false economy to leave getting ANY fuel until the last minute.0 -
Just thought i'd post the link (hope i'm allowed) to the live streaming webcam in St Petersburgh Russia, they always give a good show of snow and I'm kinda a people watcher too. It's always fascinating to watch live with it being so far away... oh and not forgetting that us Cornwall-ians always miss out on the white stuff. I had watched a live bird cam there for the past couple of years, but it has now been removed, so can't watch the tweetie-pies in the snow.

Considering all the scary headlines a month ago about this winter being freezing and tons of snow, here in London its been very mild - I've only had to scrape the ice of the car twice. Its rained buckets beyond a joke, but I'm very glad I haven't had to have the heating up to battle the cold.0

We had some snow today! There was much excitement. One minute the sky was blue, the next it went dark, threw a flurry at us for about 5 minutes, then it all vanished :rotfl:
The kiddies were very pleased, then very disappointed
Has been very cold today though, icy winds.Bossymoo

We may be in for a bit of winter coming up me thinks....it has that feel about it.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
