Preparing for winter IV

does anyone know where i can get radiator airers for the really thick radiators? i was looking at the ones at poundstretcher but they aren't wide enough and i'm not sure how well things will hang from them if i just sorta hook them near the front of the radiator rather than over the back side of it... they'd be slanted quite a bit not even sure they'd stay in place or not...
my bathroom radiators are thin so i will buy one set and test it but i suspect they won't work well on the wide radiators in the rest of the house so any suggestions for ones that will would be greatly appreciated0 -
Managed to get a pair of muckers (rubber boot, fabric up above the ankle) lovely fleecey boots in a size too big (to allow for thick socks) from Aldi. Plus some aforementioned thick socks. I will NOT have chilblains all winter this year! I now work in the middle of nowhere, so driving to work in snow could become a problem. I need to think about a car kit, my lovely MG ZS diesel is great in the snow, but she's no 4x4!0

One thing that I will never be without in the house, especially in winter, is pre-cooked microwavable rice!
My DD and I had norovirus last year and omg, I have never felt so dreadful. I had to ask my neighbour to bring me some cooked rice as I was too weak to make it myself! I am lucky that I do have fab neighbours, but now I always have a sachet in the cupboard just in case.0 -
I admit to hibernating in winter so am busy getting stuff together for quiet times. House is cosy, stove being serviced this week, fuel arriving in a few days, food cupboard is full. Produce from the allotment has filled the small freezer full to bursting, meat and fish bought and vacuum packed before freezing and big freezer is almost at groaning point too. Dehydrated veggies are safely tucked away in a dark place, cobb cooker and loads of cobbles for outdoor cooking if we have power cuts, they cook for 2 1/2 hours with the lid on and are safe. Torches and batteries in an obvious place, candles and wind up everything in the usual storage places
Loads of fleece and fibres to spin, lots of spun yarn ready to knit, lots of fabric and patterns ready to sew and lovely video classes already bought in a sale at craftsy. Chocolate in a drawer and hm wine will be fully ready in a couple of months. Phew that is winter sorted then. Got snowed in in 2010 for 6 weeks so am not taking any chances anyway. We all had a cut-off high over the uk this summer and if that happens in winter then we will get a long period of very cold weather with mountains of snow
Suns magnetic field is about to reverse in a few weeks and it will affect the earths magnetic field, so my advice is to be prepared for severe cold and also electronic disruption0 -
Thanks Kittie x0

Thank you kittie, as always
I feel like everything is in place and that all we had for last winter is fine enough for this winter too.
My concerns are over food stocks. This is what I'll be concentrating on.0 -
