I can nip in there tomorrow as its just down the road from me. Thanks for that. I cant understand it as 3 years ago I was in a bigger 2 bed cottage with prepayment meters and paying £30 per month. i was hammering the tumble dryer too. Here, I hardly use anything and it is double. Have the price increases been that much??

If I have bookshelves on the biggest exterior wall I get terrible condensation and damp: lost lots of books this way, so just be careful. My exterior wall is south facing but very cold in winter.

Happy New Year to everyone! It may be a beautiful sunny day here but just realised that I can see my breath in my lounge! I have my thermostat on low so the radiators will kick in if necessary but I am feeling nice and warm, wrapped in layers and keeping busy.
I am wondering how everyone else is doing? Does anybody know if the dramatic snowfalls they have suffered in the States will make their way over here to the UK?

Keep posting people, I miss your updates and advice,

    Alice

    Hi Alice
Happy New Year to you too - and all forum readers.
Inside temp is 16.9c in bathroom and 17.4c in passage without any heating. Outside temp (in shade is 5c). I am wrapped up but comfortable.
Hopefully I might get away with not turning on the heating until later this evening. Every kw counts.

    Happy New Year

Opened all the windows today and it was lovely to feel the breeze blowing through the house freshening it up. Also got the washing out but just brought it in as it's starting to drizzle.

Will be closing the windows soon as it is starting to feel chilly. I too was wondering if we'll get the snow that America has.

The European forecasters are predicting intense cold and snow for the UK and much of Europe from the end of next week.

    Happy New Year, all.

Thanks for the weather warnings. Forewarned is forearmed!

I don't know why I've never noticed before but the door to my flat lets in quite a draught. I've decided to do something about it before [STRIKE]the marathon[/STRIKE] work begins again on Monday. It's a wooden door with very small gaps around where panels slot in.Would a curtain (have fleece to line it) or some tape be better?

I wonder if they forecast the temperature rising so much that Edinburgh had to close the outside skating rink yesterday due to it melting! Who would have thought it. Hopefully we will get there before the Winter Wonderland closes for the season.

Never had the thermals on but I have worn my onesie mum got me for Xmas, not outside though :)

It has been mild, but if we do get some wintry weather I want to be prepared. Just checked that gloves, scarves etc are where they should. I have stocked up on essentials so would just need to shop for fresh stuff. If it snows or is very icy it is impossible to get the car out (very steep drive) so will walk to work, shop etc.

    Keep warm
