so your bill was £14 higher than what the engineer said it would be about. £144 is about £130 in my book

I agree with you, as I mentioned previously my complaint is not purely about the money. I have had other tradesman come and do work in our house (this is the first person we have had come in to look at our boiler) and we have never experienced anything like this
  • free estimates don't normally apply to boiler breakdowns as you can't just stand there look at the boiler & say that's your prob, you need to work on the boiler to find out what is wrong so you will charged for that, you will also be charged for the repair along with the parts needed, the guy said about £130 but it could have taken the 2nd guy longer to do, if he was working all the time on the repair (& knew what he was doing) & not just drinking tea or stood outside having a fag then it's been done asap, some companies do charge for going to get materials, most companies charge by the hr, you wouldn't expect a plumber to come out change a washer that takes 10 mins & charge you £8
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

there's a big difference between giving a quote or estimate and finding a fault ,
if you told then you wanted your boiler replaced then they would give you a costed quote to cover labour and parts
however , you can't expect someone to give their time to come and find the fault and not charge for it , it takes time , costs fuel etc , the fault could have been something obvious like a leak or a blown fuse - or something that may take a couple of hours or so to find . so if they then said you need part x replacing and it will cost £130 you could then ring someone else up and say i need part x replacing in my boiler can you do it for £100 , finding the fault is part of the job , to think otherwise is being a bit naive

if it was me , i would expect to pay for time taken to find a fault ,and would just be happy that the boiler has been fixed at a reasonable price ,

time to move on me thinks , you have not been fleeced and the job has been successfully done , if they had charged you £500 then , yes you would be right to kick up a fus
