Do not sign up with scottish power

We have been with them for 2 years now. I had a nightmare when the heating broke down last winter. After 6 home visits they eventually fixed the boiler having tried to say the fault was not covered by them.

Now to TOP IT ALL OFF their engineer who came to do our annual boiler safety check left without completing it as he could not take the cover off the boiler.

They managed to remove it for the safety check last year and to replace the main circuit board earlier this year.

They have apparantly changed to a new third party supplier who could not remove it and now REFUSES to send another more competent engineer. I guess their new engineers are CHEAPER so we the customers get LOWER QUALITY service! The engineer had NO COMMON SENSE!

They actualy asked me to dismantle the cupboard around the boiler to get access! It's a fitted kitchen that's been there for three years! I'd have to remove the work top, washing machine, dishwasher and quartz work top.

All I get from them is excuses. DO NOT USE THEM.

When you call their customer complaints number they don't answer. Maybe they need a bigger customer complaints team!

  • That seems very sad that you are having problems with Scottish Power, I have been a customer for many years with no problems.
If the fault was not covered, did you read up on your agreement?

Did you offer to help with the cover?
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)

Gosh, why on earth should a householder be expected to remove the boiler cover when a so-called Gas Safe Engineer can't? That is ridiculous and the boiler engineer obviously clueless. Wouldn't want my boiler servied by a twit who can't even remove its cover, that's for sure!

You appear to be speaking about some kind of boiler/central heating protection, rather than as an energy supplier.

I wouldn't have boiler/central heating protection from anyone, but that's me.

I have used SP before in the past for energy supply. I don't know if it's the same call centre (I guess not) but they answered quite quickly when I had the need to call.

Anyway, I'm sure the SP rep here will be along to sort you out soon. Again, as they are on the energy retail side of things, I'm not sure they can help you directly, but if not, they will pass your details to a man that can ... assuming you supply them.

    :)

As I understand the OP's post, the reason they are not able to remove the boiler cover is because it is being blocked by the OP's own cupboard and the fitter does not wish to dismantle the OP's fitted furniture. They are gas fitters, not cabinet makers.

That is certainly NOT what the OP said.......Scottish Power engineers had serviced the boiler previously, and repaired it eventually on a different occasion, due to a separate fault which took them multiple attempts to do so, having tried to weasel out of a repair they claimed was not covered, but in fact was.....are you following still?

OP had their kitchen installed years ago - Scottish Power managed to service and repair the boiler since the kitchen was installed, so your sarcasm has fallen somewhat flat on this occasion - the boiler engineer just needed to be a competent boiler engineer, not a cabinet maker. But he wasn't very competent, was he?

The service people are likely to be some incompetent lot like Homeserve trading under a contract with Scottish Power.
We have had Scottish Power energy supply for ywo years now and they are about a million percent better than Npower!

You appear to have confirmed it was indeed what the OP posted ;)

    Think about it.

If some gas fitter were to start dismantling the fitted kitchen and a mistake were to occur ... it doesn't need to occur because of incompetence, we all are capable of making a mistake ... damage was done, then where would it all end.

It's not a risk most gas fitters would be willing to undertake as they would not be insured for such eventuality.

... and I wasn't being sarcastic in my previous post.

Then your capacity to understand the OP s post seems to be lacking......

    1. The kitchen was the same as when previous SP boiler servcices and repairs were done. There was no change to the kitchen.

    2. SP boiler person arrives to service boiler and "can't remove cover" without dismantling the kitchen, despite all previous boiler engineers managing perfectly well without dismantling the kitchen. How strange. Kitchen the same as it was for last boiler service - no problem removing cover then. Incompetent boiler person, dismantling kitchen unnecessary, boiler accessed perfectly adequately in previous years without doing so.

    Understand now?
