Older rabbit insurance

We've recently homed a rabbit who's owner has been forced to give her up.

The rabbit is in good health, but is 5 years old, which means Petplan won't add her to the policy with our existing rabbits.

I've not been able to find any other company that will insure rabbits over 5, or in some cases 4, years of age.

Does anyone know of a company that will take her on?

Thanks,
Ian

  • just had a look on the companies I've used before and they all say the Rabbit must be less than 5 when the policy starts :(
The ones I've looked at were helpucover and exotic direct.
Is her exact age known for definite, and documented at the vet? I've had rescue buns and put an approximate age before (because exact age not known) and no-one's ever checked or questioned it.

Thanks for giving a home to an older bunny :)

It may be a case of making your own insurance policy by setting aside £10 a month and using that if anything happens :(

  • Have you tried posting on the rabbit rehome forums? Otherwise, echo setting aside enough money each month as a cushion, so you build up a good few £££. Mind you, we were quoted £3.5k for bunny surgery recently, so that would be a lot of £££
  • She is definitely over 5 years old, so we can't get away with claiming ignorance and hoping the vet estimates a lower age.

We can afford to deal with a certain level of expense, but given her age and the fact she is un-spayed, sadly there's quite a high chance of something expensive happening before we've saved up enough to deal with it :-(

    Thanks,
    Ian
