Digital photo frame v tablet for viewing photos

I've only just started looking into this so any advice gratefully received.
As the price of tablets comes down, what are the pros and cons of using a tablet instead of a dedicated digital photo frame to view family photos?
I understand that a digital photo frame is simply a way of viewing images whereas the tablet can do much more besides, however what would the screen quality be like and do any tablets come with stands/hangers to allow them to be used like a frame?
Also are there many digital frames that run from rechargeable batteries or are wi-fi enabled like a tablet would?
Thanks

Does anyone actually use a digital photo frame? I've seen only a handful of people with them and they are always turned off.
The main "problem" will be that phones are starting to stretch to better accommodate the aspect ratio of films rather than photos and you can predict that tables probably will follow. Even if they dont they typically are already too tall for their width compared to a standard 4:3 photo
In theory, as the price of tables come down so do the price of digital photo frames as they share a lot of components and so tables of the same brand/ quality should always be more expensive
Not seen any battery or wifi enabled frames but that isnt to say they dont exist0 -
Photo frames are typically powered by mains adaptor, so don't lend themselves to being passed from one viewer to another. It's difficult to imagine folks gathering around a static frame to see your holiday snaps.
Tablet can be passed around, and tends to have an intuitive interface to scroll from one photo to another.
Frames will give you a slideshow, but won't respond to touch commands
Tablets tend to have bigger screens than frames.
Frames work from SD cards. Not all tablets will do this.
A plate stand would suffice for standing a tablet upon, I'd suggest, but as I said - the real advantage of the tablet is that you don't stand it on something, you pass it backward and forward between people.0 -
Also, in terms of resolution, contrast etc, many frames are actually pretty horrible0

Is it only me that sees the obvious snag with tablets (apart from the SD card thing)
Photo frame £30-40. Tablet £150-400! Five to ten times the cost.
For me, PC to TV via HDMI is the best way of showing photo slide shows.
YMMV

Sorry to dig up an old thread but now that you can get tablets for not much more than digital photo frames, why not use a tablet to hang on a wall or prop on a table as a digital photo frame. The tablet will have WiFi and you can use something like Dropbox or point a photo gallery app at a network share so you won't even need to interact with the tablet at all. You can push/update photos by changing the collection on the network share/Dropbox.
Any downsides?0
