[/B]Apparently there is a virus-like pest called CWS (Cool Web search) which Ad-aware SE & Spybot S & D do not detect. The purpose built tool to fix it is called the CW Shredder You can download it free from the PC World website. Scan only takes a few seconds, but is worth doing !! Find it here :

i had that virus!!!! grrrrrrr

removed it by other means as it was a newer version than the cw shreader at the time.

The CWS Trojan/Hijacker is quite well known, trouble is the darn thing is constantly changing. The original developer of CWShredder (Merijn Belekom) could not cope with the constant demands of the product and sold it last October to Intermute, from whom you can still get it free.

The version from the PCWorld site is 2.12 which to my knowledge is two months out of date, they released 2.14 a few days ago (http://www.intermute.com/products/cwshredder.html).

CW Shredder has been around for a while. Make Sure you get the latest version, CWS actually blacklists the shredder.

CWS is quite difficult to get rid of and the tool does a good job.

CWShredder is certainly not a new one. I've had it for about a year now on the computer. Reminded me to update it though!

Thanks for the hints; I've downloaded it. Judging by the list of restricted sites I have in IE, many CWS websites are blocked by either Spybot S&D or SpywareBlaster, but I should think it's worth having CWS Shredder in case; much easier to get it now than too late.

CWS Shredder is very useful as CoolWebSearch is a !!!!!! to remove otherwise
