Starting new job in 10 days but car insurance up for renewal before start?

Presumably, I state that I'm unemployed on the insurance application (because I am at the date of renewal).
Looking at the price comparison websites, I'd pay more whilst unemployed.
But what happens when the job starts in a few weeks time?
Would I then pay less?

I would say you're not unemployed. You currently have a job, you just haven't actually started it yet.
(Provided it's not conditional, ie you have been offered it, you've accepted, and have a firm start date)0 -
Ignore the comparison websites. Phone them insurer directly and say your starting a new job as... On whatever date.
Meanwhile your having a few weeks off.
Is the job set in stone though?

I've just gone through similar but with closer dates.
My insurance renewal was 14 Sep 12 and on 12 Sep 12 I was offered a job starting on 18 Sep 12. I just rang them to say that I was renewing and that I'd be employed and they put it through, I didn't mention any dates - and the fee was £35 lower (just under 10%).
I was unemployed from Oct 11 but didn't tell my insurance company until about two months later, at that time it added £28 to the policy. When I told them I was unemployed for some reason they left 'commuting' on the policy.0
