Found a buyer for my car.. He wants to pay by bankers draft..

Is this a safe way for me as the seller?

  • Bankers Drafts can be stolen, and when paid into your account can show as cleared for a few days, and then the money is taken back from your account when the deception is discovered.

The best way of payment is either cash, or a credit into your own bank account before handing over the car. If you use the later, you should immediately transfer the money into another account to prevent any attempted claimback.

The only really safe way is cash.

  • Bank transfer into your account. If you are both on Fastpay, it can literally take no longer than 10 minutes to show up. Max amount for a Fastpay payment is £10k.

If you goto his branch of bank local to you on the day and see them write the bankers draft then your OK. I know an ebay dealer that does this.

If they turn up with one then risky. He turns them away.

Cash or Cash. Get a UV test light and marker pen for testing notes.
