Hi,
you need to gather your past your bills and have a look at your usage, then go onto somewhere like Uswitch.com and put the info into it and it will work out if it would be cheaper to switch.
Also have a read of Martin's article on Utilities

Could I suggest you look at the thread "Energy Prices - Comparisons" that I started a week or so back. It may not answer your questions but it will perhaps help to guide you through this jungle !0

I would recommend the switch immediately to Click2 for electricity, ( via Quidco for some cashback). This is one of the cheapest tariffs around, and AFAIK the switch is immediate, so instant savings to be made. If you find something better in the future you only have to stay for 28 days then swap again.
The same for gas, but there are more cheaper gas tariffs around, because BG are not allowed to have lower tariffs ( competition rules). Dont forget Ebico as they are expected to drop their competetive prices soon, but are not mentioned on all switching sites.ac's lovechild0 -
Thanks all - much appreciated. For some reason the gas/elect rates pages on https://www.house.co.uk don't open. Does anyone else get this problem?
Thanks again.

Hi.
I've got Adobe Reader 6 which functions OK but can't get the gas/elect rates to open at all. A bit confusing.
