Satander advice

Hi there,
I left an account with zero balance.
Unfortunately fees for a small overdraft from the previous month were appplied a month later.
This then triggered various ovderdraft fees until it's reached £166 and I was first aware of this when a letter arrived demanding payment.

10/09/2012 DAILY UNARRANGED OVERDRAFT FEE £100.00 -£166.00
09/08/2012 DAILY UNARRANGED OVERDRAFT FEE £45.00 -£66.00
09/08/2012 DAILY ARRANGED OVERDRAFT FEE £1.00 -£21.00
10/07/2012 DAILY ARRANGED OVERDRAFT FEE £20.00 -£20.00

I called them today and they offered a £100 goodwill payment.

I didn't accept that and they've passed me onto another department (I'm not sure which). I read out some of this page: http://www.govanlc.com/bankcharges.html
I said that I'd rather escalate this if necessary rather than owe £66 to a bank when the true cost to them was going to be a few pounds at most.

What do you think I should do next?

Take the £100 goodwill gesture, the banks won the court case.

You also didnt notice for 2 months which explains the high fees.
  • OK. Thanks.

I bank with santander, they give you enough notice of any charges, no sympathy whatsoever, the first charge on the 10th July will have been notified at least 10-14 days before the charge.
  • I'm not asking for sympathy. It's a dormant account which I didn't take too much notice of and had set to zero.
For whatever reason I wasn't aware of the first set of impending fees when I cleared it to zero.
I just want to close it all down and and i am prepared to acept a cost of some sort. I came here to ask for advice on the best way to do this.

accept the £100 and write it off to experience.

make sure to close the account this time
  • Very helpful woman at Santander has done the goodwill payment, I've paid the difference and she's trying to waive a future charge so that it's all sorted and I can close it all.
