Welcome Car Finance Help needed!

Brought my car from Approved car finance with the finance from Welcome, have defaulted on payments due to personal circumstances they contacted me and obviously wanted money from me, by mutual agreement agreed they could take the car back then didnt hear from them for months now received a letter saying they are taking me to court via their solicitor. What is the best thing i can do? I really dont want the car its sitting up at my old house awaiting them to collect, but they havent!

Unfortunately even if they repossessed the car and sold it on you'd still be liable for any shortfall....

  • sell the car privately and get a short settlement figure from them and ensure its the same as the selling price. dont be bullied by this company, they are run on a shoe string with poorly trained staff. bully your way to the settlment figure and attempt at end of month so they can reach their "branch target"

  • I had a friend who had the same problem with Welcome. In the end we towed the car to the Peterborough office under the cover of darkness and left it right out side their front door and posted the keys through the letterbox. Funny thing was there were 3 other abandoned cars on their car park.:D

Next day they phoned him and started being resonable about paying off the shortfall.

Welcome are really not intrested in talking the car back all they want is the money.

Could you not get the car to them. Lie to the AA/RAC and maybe they will get it recovered to Welcome offices. Thats if you are a member.

Actually I A is right. I know. I have been in that situation. If i handed the car back i WOULD be liable for any shortfall. Only if i was up to date on payments and gave it back as per credit agreement. Then i would have nothing else left to pay, Sadly i was behind on payments so shortfall still had to paid.

  • I had the same problem with welcome, you must have made a certain number of payments (a percentage) before they will consider taking it back. Even then the car still belongs to them until it's paid for. The interest is unbelieveable and any missed payments will also get added interest on top. Bottom line is to everyone. DO NOT GO WITH WELCOME CAR FINANCE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try being up front with welcome and explain your situation, send them a SOA and come to an arrangement re selling/reposession of the car and payment of balance, my experience is that they can be very helpful and accommodating if you are willing to co-operate with them.

Just to remind you that if your car has no car tax on it, then you have to get it SORN'ed otherwise you can now get fined.
