Will an existing credit card give you 0% purchase deal

hi, i have 2 existing credit cards and want to make a fairly major purchace. Rather than go through the application process of a new credit card would my existing card provider give me a 0% purchase deal on my existing card?

anyone with any experience of this?

    It's unusual, in my experience.

Occasionally. Worth a quick phone call to find out.
Virgin used to quite a bit but I think I've only had transfer offers from them for the last year.

  • RBS cards often tell me there is a 0% balance transfer on offer

Same, but that's not what was asked.

Personally I've never had a repeat 0% purchase offer, only balance transfers. I suppose this is because they at least get a BT fee from that, whereas if they kept giving out new 0% purchase deals they wouldnt get anything at all.

My bad for scan reading :o

Of cause could buy with one card and transfer to a 0% offer but then you have the ~3% BT fee

    Wouldn't be likely.
You've already got their credit card. They'll assume you'll spend on it.

With a balance transfer, it's a rival company who has got your business. It's worth them losing a little on giving you a 0% deal to transfer your business to them away from the competitor.
  • Thanks for your replies on this. It's just as I and you suspected, no can do but hey in true money saving style at least I tried!
Just thinking how to get what I need / want the cheapest way possible.
  • I got 3 months 0% purchases on an old Natwest Classic card back in April.
