My son is asking "Santa" for a laptop for Christmas.
I was wondering if any one would have an opinion on this one?
Or the spec it has.
thank you
sorry should have added - son is 7 years old, plays the usual moshi monsters, loves creating his own powerpoint presentations - on football , writing stories on word.
we have as a family pc a macbook - 7 years old very slow now. he is used to this and he has an ipad, but a mac laptop is simply not affordable.

Spec is good for the price. But I can't comment on the brand.
This is another one you can consider.

And there is a thread floating around on sub-£350 laptop. You can have a look there.0 -

That's really good spec for the price, Medion is a good brand as well, I don't know of another laptop that can beat it for a similar price.0 -
How long any laptop lasts depends largely on how it is looked after. If you teach your son how to use it properly, not to lay it on the bed when using it or carry it around opened by the lid and not to have something pressing up against the charger plug when it is on charge, it'll do him well.0

Thank you all.
I have read the sub £350 thread too and ended up even more confused.
Will keep looking here and reading.MollyJoe0 -

Can I ask please:
Why not lay it on the bed? does it need to be on a had surface?
I very often sit with mine on me, is that not good too ?
I can see I have a lot to learn going forward the older my son gets and technology progresses....MollyJoe0 -

The air intake for the laptops cooling is on the bottom if you have it on say a bed it smothers the intake which can cause dust buildup, overheating and can limit the laptops lifespan (esp the case of you were to play Flash content (youtube or iplayer) or games). There was also some research or news saying if you have a hot laptop resting on you it can cause permanent red marks because of the heat.
If you want to use it on a bed or on your lap then just using something as simple as a tray (you can get ones with a built in cushion on the bottom) to put the laptop on will prevent all that and your laptop will thank you for it.0 -
I second the Medion recommendation - one of the guys I work with got one for his son for university work, and it's doing pretty well.
I might buy one to replace my old knackered Compaq/HP laptop.0 -
