RBS Basic Bank Account

Evening all,

Just wanting some knowledge on a situation I have.

I recently applied for an RBS Select Account, went through the process but at the end it appears that the only account I could get was the basic account or select silver account. I was !!!!!! and assumed the select account was the basic one, so continued with application and account is now set up.

However after some research I had a look into the account and turns out this account only allows you to access RBS only cash machines, which is and isn't an issue. The main reason for opening this account is just an account for my monthly allowance I give my self separate from my bills.

Perhaps a month ago I opened and RBS Select Gold account and this is going ok. I had recently had fraud happen on my previous bank accounts around 3 or so months ago and when this happened I wasn't comfortable keeping the same sort code and account number of my accounts so opened two new ones to replace them and closed the old ones.

Do you think the reason I got the basic account this time is because of the amount of accounts I've opened in such a short space? My credit is good as I've never had any late payments on any sort of bills.

So, the main question is, is there any negatives of having a basic bank account? Can this be looked upon as bad when applying for credit in the future? or is it ok?

Thank you!

Select Gold? Do you mean Royalties Gold?

Having the basic in addition will have no affect on your credit standing.
  • Yes, sorry, I meant royalties gold account.

Ok, that is fine, I wasn't sure whether having a 'basic account' on your credit file would be taken as a negative or not.
