Update: As you know I did not get into any university for social work. I applied by Ucas Extra and got a phone call today from one of the unis in saying that they will give me a interview, (i previously sat the test and failed, therefore no intereview was given).

The lady informed me that she really had to push the man to give me intereview as i had previously sat the test and failed. She informed me that there was still places HOWEVER i've fallen short of the ucas points - I got a 120 ucas points (Merit, Pass) - The course states '160-220 points including a minimum of 140 points with a minimum of two Grade Cs from two full 6-unit awards are required '

I was told to brush up on my knowledge of social work. I wonder how my point will effect me?

Well done on being given this opportunity!
In my opinion, providing you do not screw up the interview, you should be in. The Uni would not bother to contact you personally so late in the year if they did not have strong intentions of accepting you (providing you meet minimum criteria). They will appreciate that you have gone to effort to attend the interview and will not want to get your hopes up for nothing/mess you about!
Don't worry too much about not having passed the entrance test and having a low UCAS score. They knew this and still decided to personally come back at you with an interview so it is now irrelevent. It is important that you now prove yourself in other areas.
Dress smart on interview day and let them know how much you want it.
    Good luck!

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • Best of luck with your course. Might I suggest you buy yourself some social work books to celebrate ... lol Seriously you have jumped hurdles and got the place (many give up) and if you can get some reading in now it will help you do well. The Neil Thompson book understanding social work is a good and fairly uncomplicated book to read. Contact the uni and ask for the reading list in advance that way you will be able to gain understanding and not feel lost amongst lots of health/social care progressors.

    Good luck.
  • Well done BuisinessStudent! I had a feeling you would get the place :T

I guess you need a new name for MSE now? :D
