Identified a sofa I wanted to buy on Argos' recent sale. To avoid the inconvenience for Argos as well as myself of sending it back, I tried to get a swatch of the fabric to see what it was like. Didn't think this would be a problem since the online info included the statement "Swatch service available." Phoned the number given and was told that that wasn't true. Made the mistake of waiting a day to figure out if there might be a way of getting a swatch -- maybe the service was wrong not the website. Big error. The sale had ended and the sofa was now over twice the sale price. Naively thinking an ethical business would take into account the point that the problem was caused by the incorrect information ("swatch services available") on its own website I phoned customer service, explained things to a manager -- and was told that there was no way Argos was responsible for the lateness of the order: I should have ordered it and sent it back if I didn't like it. Indeed, the manager was right; I was really stupid to try to save everyone unnecessary trouble. Won't do that again. And won't buy anything from Argos again either.

wait a couple of weeks, it will be back on sale. Or keep a look out at Homebase as they sell the same stuff and often have an extra 15% off at weekends0

Sofas (like wine) are always "on sale". The period at full price is just a legal formality to enable them to claim that the real price is some kind of "special offer".0

The sofa is worth less than the 'sale' price, the higher price is to make the 'sale' price seem like a good deal. It will be the same price again sometime, just sit it out (or stand, if you got rid of the old sofa)0

Sale ended one day after phoning them...
Swatch would have arrived 1-3 days after phoning them...
You was destined to miss the sale.
I suspect the sample wasn't solely was their benefit and convenience, but also to save you money if you had to return the goods.0
