It should just be a case of installing an application that's compatible with the file format. The file format is usually indicated by the extension after the dot in the filename -- e.g. .html is an HTML file, .xls is an Excel spreadsheet, .doc a Word Document, .odt is an Open Document Text file, etc.
Windows tries to keep track of which file extensions should be opened by which program. So, when you double-click on a .doc file Windows knows to open it with MS Word. If the file-associations aren't set up correctly, Windows may not open the file correctly when you double-click on it. In this case, you may need to download the attachment, and then right-click the file (in Windows Explorer) and manually choose which program to open the file with via the "Open with..." menu item.0 -
the attachment is a .doc.msi0

the attachment is a .doc.msi
That sounds a bit dodgy... Windows can be set to hide file extensions, so some malware will be named with two extensions. The idea is that most non-technical users will have file extensions hidden, so Windows won't display the ".msi" bit at the end and the file will incorrectly appear to be a ".doc" file.
MSI files are Windows Installer packages. If you aren't expecting your friend to be sending you a piece of software that's disguised as a document, then I'd be a bit suspicious...!0 -
I would ask said trusted friend if they really sent it to you , and ask her/him what is itthe attachment is a .doc.msi4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy
