A McKenzie Friend is a non-legal member of the public who assists an appellant when they have no legal representative, at a time that is often bewildering and full of anxiety. A McKenzie Friend is a volunteer, independent of the court system and the Home Office. Our volunteers assist asylum seekers who have no legal representative or access to legal aid to submit appeals and fresh claims, attend court hearings with the clients and provide moral support.
  • Have you checked out the families need fathers website as a McKenzie friend can be contact through them.

A McKenzie friend is some who is not a qualified lawyer (or is not qualified to appear in the relevant court) but who assists someone who is acting in person (i.e. without legal advice). The term originates from a case in that name where an Australian barrister tried to help in this way, was chucked out by the judge but this was then overturned on appeal and such assistance allowed (as it has been since). Whether you'd find someone willing to do that for a stranger or with little notice to prepare I don't know, nor where you'd start looking!

  • need one that has exp of final court hearing and possibly preparing a trail bundle.
    any other suggestions plz
  • im am woman hence that group supporting dad may not be appropriate
  • Pretty much all anyone is going to be able to do is google it. Why don't you do the same if you're already on the internet then you can find exactly what you're looking for? You've given so few details its really difficult to know how to help you
  • Try posting on the Citizen's Advice Bureau section. Have you been to your local CAB?
  • As someone else said, if you can post on here asking, why not ask Google?!

But, perhaps it might be worth contacting that calderdads one and simply asking if they know of another agency who could provide the support you require? They are sure to know of people who offer the same service as them!
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?
