Avoid sending the funds from your foreign account directly to your UK Sterling account as the banks will usually give you a lousy conversion rate.
You are better off to use a specialist international money company such as Thomas Exchange UK (most currency companies hold currency accounts and can accept transfers from account abroad) they will then convert the funds into Sterling for you and send the Sterling to your UK account as a same day transfer. Basically once you register with them they would give you their Euro account details for you to transfer the Euros to.
If it is over £5000 equivalent they will usually give you a preferential rate base the rate on the live market rate.0 -

You couldn't be more right; I checked the RBS currency converter on their web site this morning:
10,000 Euro = 7,277.49 Pounds Sterling
