Self Service Checkout Glitch?

Just came across this recently, so it makes me wonder how much I've been ripped off so far.

I bought some snacks for work on a 3 for 2 offer and when it got to the payment screen the machine hadn't given me a discount for the deal.

The shop girl came over and told me to cancel payment, the machine will then sort the price out and I can go ahead and pay the proper amount.

So how long has this been going on for??

I've been doing this for the past couple of weeks now and you'd be amazed how many times discounts haven't come off until I've done this. Have had this happen at my local Sainsburys and Morrisons.

Now I always cancel payment and it recalculates the price and takes off any discounts.

Just thought I'd give you all the heads up if you're using self service machines.

  • In Sainsbury's I have noticed that sometimes when you go to pay any offers or reductions do not immediately show up but if you hit the go back button then the discounts will be applied! I always double check this when paying via the self service at Sainsburys as one time I forgot and afterwards realised I paid £3 or so more than I needed too. Doh!

    Tescos does this too, and did it earlier when I was getting a meal deal sandwich. £1.46 saved in 2 seconds!

    It's not a glitch, if you tried to pay it would correct the price (i.e. select payment method).
