VTech Innotab2 VS LeapFrog2 for Godson

My girlfriend and I have been asked to get our godson a tablet for Christmas. Yeah, we tend to spoil him a bit.

But what's better, the VTech Innotab2 or the LeapFrog2? I don't even have a tablet myself, so I've no idea and the girlfriend isn't much better either.

As always, I bow to the excellent knowledge of the people here
Cheers!

If there's anywhere cheaper to get them, I'm keen to hear that too.

My daughter got the original InnoTab for Xmas last year. It is OK and came with 3 free tokens which can be used to download games, otherwise you have to pay. The game are quite expensive for what they are, very basic and simple and the cartridges are the same, expensive for not too much in the way of product.

Saying that we stuck an SD card in it and put a load of songs and pictures on it and she seems happy to play with it from time to time. We haven't bothered to pay for any more of the downloadable apps because of the price for the quality but she has a couple of the cartridges.

The only issue we had was that it was drinking batteries so we ended up stick it on the end of an AC adapter and she uses it plugged in now. We were not using cheap batteries either, we used Duracell in it when she first got it and it ran out within 24 hours.

The only other issue we had was that the Vtech website couldn't cope with the volume of people trying to register their product and download games last year. A week after Xmas I ended up ringing them and they gave me another link to try saying that they didn't expect the demand they had on the tablet. I think that is nonsense as they wouldn't have built that many if they didn't expect to sell them and obviously didn't want to put money into creating enough bandwidth on the site.

We bought our daughter the InnoTab last Christmas and she loved it. She has now just updated to an InnoTab 2.

As far as I remember the only big difference is on the InnoTab & InnoTab 2 you can play your own videos (via the SD card) which you can't on the Leapfrog.

Our daughter is 5 and can use all the features (games, music, photos, drawing, notes, videos) by herself. Our 2 year old son is also able to switch it on and choose the videos and music he wants by himself, although he is still a little bit young for the games (it is aimed at 3-9 year olds)

I agree the only downside is the battery life, but I believe this is about the same on both InnoTab and Leapfrog tablets.
