Collect+ for expensive item?

We sold something on ebay that we thought might fetch £20, however it sold for over £200:eek:. Originally we were going to use collect+ as we thought the value would be less than £50, I know I can increase the cover with collect+ to £300 but don't know if this method would be acceptable to paypal incase of an item not received claim. I know I can track the item with them but don't know if that's enought to prove delivery. Should I be looking at sending it another way?

Currently (and I say this as it is to change in Oct) Paypal require online tracking showing delivery WITH a signature for items of £150 or more.

I don't know if CP do this, you would need to check.

Ah thanks, theonlywayisup, just found this on the C+ website

'Our online tracking and 'proof of delivery' ensures your parcels are delivered in line with eBay Buyer Protection guidelines for items worth up to £150'.

I listed delivery as by courier 3-5 days, do other couriers have a service that would satisfy paypal in case of a claim or would I need to use something like Royal Mail SD? Never had to send anything this expensive before.

Well that sounds like you can't use CP then.

    How heavy is it?

About 5kg and I expect it'll fit into a 50x30x30cm box. Parcel is being sent to Northern Ireland if that makes a difference.
  • Special delivery would be £24.50.

You may find a courier cheaper but you will have to check they have insurance. Most couriers charge more for NI than mainland UK.

Or from RM website: Although I am not 100% that these are for NI (although it does stay ALL countries in the UK).

Thanks, theonlywayisup, I'm going to take a look at the express48 option. Hopefully I'll be able to take the parcel to the post office instead of waiting in for a courier.

    You've been a great help.
  • I just went through with a pretend scenario and it gave me the option to take to a PO or wait. Seems a good price. You may just have to check the specifics of the item you are selling to make sure they are covered, it's not always about the monetary value.

Mine wouldn't. But any main PO should.
