I know it's from your OP a while ago but I just love this -Mr P doesn't want to feel that we're living very frugally, so the key will be to manage this without him noticing that we're eating value beans...
Reminds me so much of my OH, he's just had to practically force me to go for a weekend away. I really must be a lot more subtle about it and keep him on board!0 -
Mr P has become gradually more and more on board (and has even started saying things like 'Shall we have a budget meeting this weekend?' which is amazing!) and I think I've brought him round to value beans, but there are some things that are still beyond the pale for him...I've been gently suggesting that maybe we don't need the car anymore, given that we drive about 4 times a year and would save so much on tax and insurance alone that we could rent a Mercedes for the times we do want to drive, but he's adamant that we need to keep our old banger 'just in case'. My plan is to subtly and slowly keep banging on about it so when the banger gives up the ghost he is easily persuaded that we can not bother replacing it!Starting Mortgage (May 2012): £116,095, Mortgage at September 2012: £115,677.14

Hi MrsP, just read your diary and so glad it's all going so well for you bar the odd hiccup, but life just likes to throw those at you.
I was an Aldi/Lidl convert at the start of 2012 and I'd love to know how much money I've saved since then. Now if I have to buy from a 'normal' supermarket I tut at the prices! We also have packed lunches every day, why did we ever waste money on buying something we could make at home? Hindsight is a wonderful thing!
We're busy building up our savings fund before making repayments but the addiction is still the same, just want to start paying off the mortgage!
Good luck and well done so far.Make £2020 in 2020 £178.81/£2020

I'd love to know too-I wish I was organised to use that supermarket comparison site every week so I could see how much we've saved! I popped into Asda yesterday and was amazed at how much more expensive even they are than Aldi. I am a massive snob too and loathe Asda!Starting Mortgage (May 2012): £116,095, Mortgage at September 2012: £115,677.14

Ok, not sure whether I'm allowed to do this, but if you search for 'Girl Made Of Storms' on amazon you'll find it
please have a look just so I have people with whom I can squee with excitement about how well he's done, even if you have no intention of buying!
