Ok, not sure whether I'm allowed to do this, but if you search for 'Girl Made Of Storms' on amazon you'll find it
please have a look just so I have people with whom I can squee with excitement about how well he's done, even if you have no intention of buying!
Well done Mr P :TA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

It's so sweet isn't it! He wrote one a couple of years ago that wasn't published and was dedicated to his mum. He says this one's for me (it's about strong women!!) and the next one will be for Mini PStarting Mortgage (May 2012): £116,095, Mortgage at September 2012: £115,677.14

Would I be completely crazy to mark for two exam boards simultaneously this summer? I'd have a month of working the day job and then spending 5-6 hours every evening marking papers. I'd make approx £2k, which is the lure...
Redundancies are looming at work. I think I have to do it just in case, don't I? It's good financially and it's also good for my CV. But my God I'm going to be a head case by the end of it...Starting Mortgage (May 2012): £116,095, Mortgage at September 2012: £115,677.14

Did you make a decision on the marking decision? 5-6 hours after a working day is a lot to commit to! But then £2k is a lot of money off the mortgage!:heartsmil Stay-at-home-mummy of two, pinching the pennies but loving it! :heartsmil

Hi KansasKitty, I decided to go for it! I'm slightly dreading it but I figure it'll be worth it in the long run. I've also made a major decision and...
...am quitting my job!
Not very MSE is it? It actually is though. I worked out that without paying for childcare, all I need to do is tutor for 7 hours a week, 30 weeks of the year to bring in exactly the same amount of money I do at the moment where I work 4 days a week as a teacher. It's a no brainer for me...I can be a SAHM, spend time with Mini P, tutor in the evenings and it won't affect our money-saving/mortgage overpaying. I'm so excited about it! I'll finish at the end of this term and be paid until 31st August. I've got a few tutees at the moment and will need to advertise to pick up more in September.:jStarting Mortgage (May 2012): £116,095, Mortgage at September 2012: £115,677.14

It's so easy just to bumble along thinking there is no alternative. Well done on a great plan.

Our home insurance renewal quote came in at over £100 higher for no reason that I could see so I tried all the comparison sites and found a quote for half of our OLD payment, which is either a saving of £180 or £280 depending on what way you look at it! Also got £30 cashback so only paid £150 for the whole year, buildings and contents, comparable cover to last year. Am chuffed! The only thing that slightly worries me is that it's from a company I've never heard of...Starting Mortgage (May 2012): £116,095, Mortgage at September 2012: £115,677.14

We became home owners a year ago this month, and to celebrate I've been doing some maths...!
We've paid £7819.54 into our mortgage so far, but only paid off £2608.18 of equity. We started off owning 10% of the house, and now own 12.02%. It doesn't feel like we've made very much progress! As soon as we're off this fix and our overpayments are no longer so restricted, I cannot WAIT to start pouring money into it. I must keep reminding myself that since October last year we've saved approx £7500 and also paid £1500 for flights to America to see family. This time in a year when we can put that kind of money into the mortgage each month instead of into savings, we will hopefully start to see real headway with the evil interest...Starting Mortgage (May 2012): £116,095, Mortgage at September 2012: £115,677.14

Well, in a very non-MSE move we've booked a night in a boutique hotel for our wedding anniversary in August. It's our 5th anniversary, my mum's taking Mini P for the night and I'm looking forward to an evening of decadence! It's not in the budget so we're going to make the money between now and then-Quidco, TCB, Ipsos, anything we can get our hands on really.
