Health Insurance and physio

I need some advice on some health insurance. I'm planning to get some physio done for some long standing health problems, if you can get health insurance you can use that to pay for the treatment.

I have alot of saving but low income (on ESA, but having to appeal again). Any advice on the cheapest and best health insurance to get? Is it possible to discontinue when you don't want it anymore?

  • So you want to take out a policy so that it will pay for your physio and then intend to cancel it?

I think you'll find that most insurers would have safeguards against this, ie no claims within the first XX months, no cover for pre-existing conditions....that kind of thing.

Why aren't you just getting referred for physio from your GP?
  • Given its pre-existing you will struggle to get any insurance. Obviously an insurer is not going to charge you £100 a year when they KNOW you will be claiming £1,000 a year plus anything else that may happen to you.

You may want to look at a health cash plan (read about them http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/healthcare-cash-plans )

It wont pay for it but will give you a percentage back and after adding in the other areas you may be able to claim from you can potentially make a "profit"

Well I have never done this before I don't know how this works. Well I guess it's possible to get health insurance for a year? Any ideas of how long it can take to make a claim and how much it might cost on average? Who do you recommend?

The reason why I'm not getting physio from my GP is that is a complicated health problem. I don't want to give too many details but the problem is nobody seems to be able to detect whats wrong with me. Most that has been said is that my left hip is quite stiff, the muscles in my lower spine is stiff and I have poor posture sitting down.

I'm not crippled I can walk fast and probably run quickly for a very short time but there are some problems with my body which are not allowing me to be as mobile as I can be. The last time I went to the physio she kinda hinted at somethings that may be causing the problem and the exercises she gave me are helping. But the problem is I have had this condition for ages and it's affecting my mental health because I'm used to being really physically active and because I can't it's making me depressed. I need a better quality physio were they have better methods of detection and recovery. I need somebody to identify the problem and give me a timescale for recovery.

I don't think the pre-existing thing will be a problem because nobody seems to have identified a serious problem. Just that the muscles around my lower spine are stiff and my right hip is stiff.

Sorry had to delete the links in your post.

The pre-existing thing will very much be a problem. The fact that you've already had physio for this issue in the past means that it is not going to be covered (at least in the short term) with a private medical insurance policy.

There are health plans which can be purchased that may be able to provide partial cover for the cost of treatment after you've held the plan for a certain length of time, however, this is not an area I advice on.

Insurance of any form is designed to cover possible risks of something happening or not happening, not pay out on things which have already happened, this is why you'll not find a provider who will cover it.

Sorry but from an insurers point of view you have a pre-existing condition.
You think it's not been diagnosed properly and you may be correct, but the condition still exists already.
No insurer will coevr you for this.

Ask if you can see a different GP for a second opinion.
You have to be assertive sometimes in the NHS.

Well looks like it's going to be a health cash plan then.
