Friendly advice - Am I showing signs?

My friend has just messaged me thinking she is pregnant - I have no idea how to reply. I didn't know I was pregnant with my son for 16 weeks!

Please can someone help me with advice -

She sent me this-

Hi Sam,

I know this is random but I feel terrible and I think I might be pregnant. I am not due on until the 5th October but I have this mank taste in my mouth I can not get rid of and I gagged on something yesterday. Is it possible I am already showing signs? Did you?

I don't think its too early to test these days is it? Be honest with your friend, tell her you didn't have any signs at all so early.

when did she last have sex? are her periods regular?
if she is due on the 5th october and is usually a regular 28 days she would have ovulated last friday/saturday though sperm can survive for a few days in the womans body. if she hasnt had sex at all last week I would say its probably going to be that she wont be pregnant - btu again, she will need to sit it out for another week or so!

If her period isn't due until 5 October, then she is probably only around 4 days post ovulation. Even if she had a fertilised egg at that point, it would be splitting into a cluster of cells and still be in the fallopian tube. You don't start producing HCG which is the pregnancy hormone which causes pregnancy symptoms until the fertilised egg has implanted in your uterus which is not normally before 6 days after ovulation and can be up to 12 days.

The only other hormone involved when you are pregnant is progesterone which increases, but it also increases naturally in the second half of your cycle at a similar rate until the egg implants. So if her symptoms are hormonal, it is just as likely that they are caused by the fact she has a period imminent as by early pregnancy.

Even if she doesn't usually get symptoms in the second half of her cycle it doesn't mean she is pregnant. For every woman who will tell you that she "knew" within days of having sex that she was pregnant, there will be another half dozen who believed they were but turned out not to be.

That being said, I hope she gets whatever answer she wants on 5 October.

If she's having symptoms already there's a likely chance she's got pretty high levels of hCG, in which case a test will work. No everyone ovulates on or around day 14.

I've never had to wait until a missed period for a test to work and have always had symptoms pretty soon after conception, some people just produce higher levels of hGC.

It's worth a try on a cheapo PT.

By my calculations on a website Friday last the 21st would have been ovulation?
