Cost of using emersion heater

Our boiler has given up the ghost and so the only way we can have hot water at the moment is by using our emersion heater. How does the cost of puting the emersion on for half an hour per day compare with the cost of hot water via the gas boiler for half an hour per day.
Sorry if this has been posted in the wrong place
Many thanks
Clare

Depends on your gas and electric tariff costs per KWh but the gas will be much cheaper (i think the cost difference is about a factor of 3 on average).

You'll need to remember to turn the immersion on and off manually (which is quite easy to forget about).
  • it will be more expensive & 30 mins prob isn't going to be long enough either, it will take longer to heat with the immersion than via the boiler.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

Immersion heaters are normally rated at 3kW so having in on for half an hour each day will use approximately one and a half units e.g. 1.5 units x 12p = 18p.

Thanks everyone. I was worred that , on the short term,it would cost a fortune . We have electric showers so we only need to use the emersion for washing up, so half an hou ris enough.
