Income support

Our son has been awarded high rate care dla. I am claiming carer's allowance. My husband works full time and I am not in paid employment. Can I claim income support?

    Relevant paragraph:
If you receive Carer's Allowance or have underlying entitlement to it, you will qualify for the carer premium in Income Support and income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, worth up to £32.60 per week.

I don't think it's awarded automatically, a friend had to apply specifically for it.
  • You cannot claim income support as your husband works full time and is expected to support you. How old is your son? If he is an adult he may be able to claim benefits other than DLA in his own right.

Does this also apply to the "Carer Premium in Income Support" as per my post?

Yes, because the carer premium is part of an income support calculation. If you are excluded from I/S none of it is payable.
