iphone 5 charger!

It's a massive pain but others have consistantly changed their adapters.
The old ones were a nightmare though - the charging lead always fell to pieces which I couldn't bear.0 -
Apple are individual. That includes, and always has done, their chargers.
It actually is a much needed improvement upon their old charger, which was bulky, and thus made anything it docked in bulky too. By changing it to a far smaller thinner one, both docks and products can be very much smaller. However it's still a pain for those who are duo teching. ipad/iphone, itouch/iphone due to it being now not switch-able between the two (or more) products.
Does the thought of having to pay £25extra put me off the new ipad... dunno really. would cross that bridge when it's released. Till then hopefully someone can bring out a proper equivalent soonish.
Unfortunately it's a case now of Android tablet vs new connector. I want to buy the mini purely down to it being an ipad and being ingrained in the apps. I can't say a new connector would actually put me off so much that I'd go to get a samsung, or google one though.
Thing is, in a couple of models along on the whole range, then people will be used to it, and expect it, and not have an issue as they've bought technology that has it and stopped using the old connector.
The issue now is that it's part and part. old connectors on old 2ndary accessories, and new connectors on their fun stuff.
Apple could've included one, but then they'd have had to include in ipad, itouch etc all of them for at least one generation. Frankly they're not so stupid to know that people would buy them, if they didn't get them free. Money talks louder than good intentions with companies.
Way back when phones started moving away from their individual chargers onto a micro/mini set up, people were unhappy that they suddenly had to use a new charger set up (even though it was actually far better than it was before) Just it hasn't really worked how it was imagined. You generally still get a charger in the box with each phone... How is that cutting down waste?0 -

It's got very little to do with chargers, as there will most likely be cheap versions available very soon (if not already). And as you say, you get a charger with the phone.
The big issue is with docking stations. People have spend huge amounts of money on sound systems with ipod/iphone docks, where the phone stands upright. The iphone 5 has now made this dock redundant, as even with the adaptor there would be too much strain on the connector, and it would be likely to break.
No matter what excuses Apple have been spouting, this is clearly a marketing move designed to make money. However I think this one may just have backfired on them. There are many other smart phones on the market that are just as good as, if not better than the iphone. So as the only thing that kept me loyal to the iphone was the two docking stations I own, then they have now lost me as a long time customer. And I really do hope that many other people feel the same way.0
