Getting overdraft but not the credit cards !!!

I bank with Halifax where my salary comes in and they gave me £1900 overdraft but never gave me any credit card even applied once and declined 6 months ago.

I opened new bank account with Santander last week and card arrived with £850 overdraft limit but again declined with the credit card i applied at the same time.

Can't figure out why being declined with CC.

I do have Barclaycard ( £800), Hsbc ( £500) and Capital one ( £500) also use them regularly and paid on time but they never seems to be increacing my limits even have been with them from 2 years and eventually nevery asked them to increse but expecting them to do it automatically as what they call Review stuff.

Kindly help me how can i increase the limits and why i have been declined for CC. Would prefer to have only one CC with a decent limits instead having different cards.

Please advice
Cheers

    Can you rephrase this bit?

I would call up the CCs and ask them to raise limits, close down one of them. Don't apply for anything for another 6 months. Don't use overdraft but keep limit available. What is your income?

They can't just give you a credit card. You have to actively apply.

If you pay your salary into the account, operate well within your agreed overdraft limit and perhaps build up some savings with them they are more likely to accept an application.

You've been with them 5 minutes. Time can be an important factor in making a decision to offer a credit card. Time with the bank. Time at address. Time in job.

Having multiple cards elsewhere probably reduces your chances of getting a new credit card.

    Ring them up and ask.

Aspiring to have more access to debt isn't necessarily a good thing.

I don't need to ring them now, as if approaching limit, limit goes up :eek::eek:

And o4u is correct in saying that having £millions in available credit isn't a good idea for a multitude of reasons.

Story of my life on all the transitions from National Girobank to Girobank PLC to Alliance & Leicester to Santander UK. They give me an overdraft and even a limit increase last week but never a credit card. I don't ask the reason and over the years I've taken my business elsewhere and they lose the business. In my better days I had Barclaycard, Diners Club and American Express and I think that overall I got a better deal than I would have got from the bank. I should really have dumped them but better the evil I know ...
