Homeplugs won't work with Linksys router

Hi I have bought some TP link homeplugs to connect DS1 XBox to the internet. I have tried all evening to get them to work but no luck. I have just this minute tried the plugs with an old Netgear router and they work beautifully.

What's going wrong?

If its a new router go into settings and make sure its not set to 5ghz and set to 2.4ghz, i had a new router last week from virgin and could not connect to any of my devices, this was because it was set to 5ghz and a lot of things will not work on that frequency.

Nope, can't find this at all.

red herring...the frequency refers to the wifi element of the router, not the ethernet ports. Do you need to "sync" the homeplugs, or some such pairing system? Try them on the same ring main first, until you get them working properly

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

I have done exactly that, but they stil will not sync using the Linksys router. However, they 'plug and play' using the old Netgear router.

^^^ That would imply there is a setting in the router's interface that may need changing....Idle Timeout, Plug'n'Play, etc.....you need to have a root around in both routers to establish the correct setting....

Yes, I thought so. How do I change the router settings please?

I have installed the homplugs management system to the lap top so I can see their mac address.

  • I had issues with a Thomson ADSL modem stopping my powerline adaptors working... turned out that the powersupply for the Thomson modem was sending out intereference that stopped the powerline networking for working..... another powersupply sorted the problem. This was a brand new powersupply but clearly something inside it was causing localised interference.
