Road tax disc, online - is MOT + Insurance certificate required?
Options
When applying for a road tax disc online,
are they MOT certificate and car insurance cerfitifcate documents required?
or you can just do it online, without them being sent anywhere?
(as when you do it in a post office, you show them to the cashier)
but we want to get the road tax online.

On the first page of the site to apply for the tax disc there are links to check your car's MOT and insurance status then after entering the reference number the system will check and tell you if you have valid MOT/insurance showing, if so it will proceed to the next step. You do not need to send them the physical documents.

It will check if MOT and insurance are valid on the date the new tax disc comes into force.
So if you apply now for a tax disc starting on 1st October but your MOT expires on 29th September you wont be able to apply online until you have a new MOT.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

You don't need the certificates but you do need valid Insurance and MOT. They do live check with the MOT and Insurance database, if they are not valid it won't allow you to purchase tax. No need to send certificates anywhere.0

I'm going to the PO today to renew my Mum's road fund licence. The MOT runs out on 29th. Can you still tax across the counter with three days left on it, or are the POs following the online rule too?I am a mortgage broker. You will not have a valid MOT certificate when the new tax starts, so no tax. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Nope, the MOT must be valid on the day the road tax starts. In your case it won't be.
Suppose it depends on how vigilant the post office cashier is on the day.0 -
I've been refused at the PO in the past, because the MOT expired a day before the new tax disc started. I was just on my way to test it, so had to get it on the way back.0

On the other hand, I have bought tax discs online and via the po counter before when the MOT was expiring before the disc came into force and the transactions went through ok. Depends on the post office person serving, and perhaps online software has been updated to make it more robust in this respect of late. To be correct though, as others have said, the MOT must be valid on the day the tax disc starts in order to retax. If online details cannot be found on the system, it will just refuse to proceed, you never need to post anything to them.0

If refused from 1st October you could repeat the month of September, i.e. ask for it to start from Sept 1st, then you will lose the price of 1 months tax, but you will have less hassle getting it MOTd.0
