Paid cheque into Credit Card account by mistake. Oops

Silly me just paid a cheque for a few hundred into a credit card account I rarely use and that had a zero balance. My lloyds debit card looks so much like my lloyds credit card and I was in a rush and didnt notice I handed over wrong card to teller. Silly me.

Can anyone advise how I might go about getting the money back out of the credit card account and into my debit account where I should have put it in the first place?

Don't suppose anyone else has been this daft. So embarrassing.:o

thanks

Once the credit shows on you credit card, use your credit card for the available amount.

Contact them. Tell them you made a error and will they transfer it back to your cheque account.
    Some CC's won't allow a credit balance.

If the credit has taken the account into a "credit" balance then contact them to ask if they can transfer it back to your bank account.

If it has just paid off some existing debt you already owe then it may be more difficult and you may have to just spend on the card with the money you paid in.
  • Thanks guys. I'll give them a ring tomorrow and see what can be done.:)

I'd assumed OP had paid a 3rd party cheque into the wrong account, so wouldn't be able to cancel it.

Not a good idea, if you could cancel the cheque the credit card company may charge £12 for failed payment item as the cheque would "bounce" in their accounts.

You should always tell a bank you have lost/mis-placed a cheque then its free in most cases.
