HELP - how can I insure myself to drive any car?

Hello all. I wonder if you could help me out? Someone told me that it was possible to insure yourself to drive any car. Is that true and if so, who does such a policy?
Companies I've tried so far don't know what on earth I'm talking about!
I don't have a car myself (there's no point really - on my street, there's nowhere to park and I don't use a car that often anyway). I normally borrow friends' and relatives' cars if I need one.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

you cant. you need to have fully comprehensive insurance on a car of your own and make sure you get Driving Other Cars extension which will cover you to drive any other car on a third party only basis.
other than that - if you have a family member who has a car you drive frequently its best to get yourself added as a named driver.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

I don't think you can get what you want.
Car insurance is done on the basis of the CAR not the person.
Why not suggest to your friends and relatives that they try to get you added.
Some may well find that their insurance premium comes down.
I know it sounds strange but it does work like that in many cases (provided your not really young or have loads of points or accidents).0 -

Hi,
You can actually get the insurance you are looking for - it's called trade insurance and will give you either fully comp or third party on any car.
You'll need to have a good hunt and some policies are restricted to those working in the motor trade only - so it might be worth finding a broker who can guide you through these. A broker also will come in handy if you claim, as they are likely to be more complex than those under a "normal" policy (proving you had permission to drive etc).
If you are only driving a small number of cars (and always the same cars, rather than an ever-changing collection), it may be worth looking into getting insured on one car with a DOC (driving other cars) extension. However - this will only ever be third party cover so you will be liable for any damage caused to the car you are driving. Also, many insurers are starting to not offer DOC cover (Norwich Union is the biggest example) so do check before you buy.
