Curry's delivery drivers are issued with !!!!!! mobiles!

Interesting comment from Curry's delivery driver today.

You know how they say they will telephone you half an hour before they are going to deliver your purchase.

Well his excuse for not doing that today was that he was 'in the countryside' and his mobile didn't work (no signal).

"That's Curry all over........you don't get decent kit".

No big deal really since I'm on school hols anyway and just out working in the garden. Not like I took a day off work or anything. Plus the dog barked when they arrived so I knew they'd got here!

But you'd think that somewhere like Currys would be able to afford decent phones for their poor delivery drivers wouldn't you?

Or was he fibbing because he forgot?
Don't grow up. Its a trap!

The signal strength has nothing to do with how 'decent' the mobile handset is. Poor reception is poor reception, which is typical in countryside locations. Even with the best handset going, if the transmitter signal is weak because of the remote location (or distance from nearest working transmitter), the handset may not get any reception.

But at least you were in and got your delivery all ok. Nothing really to vent about lol.

I agree that its nothing to do with the mobiles that they are issued with. I livein the countryside and the signal is really patchy and in places you cant make or receive calls, in fact when I am at home there is no signal downstairs, I have to be upstairs to make a call

Yeah the driver could maybe have rung but thats just out of courtesy and some firms dont even do that as they just tell you it will be between time x and y

I didn't say his Curry's issued mobile was !!!!!! - the driver did!

Admittedly I have nothing to vent about especially at the moment ( 2 weeks paid holiday, the sun is shining and we have a lovely new cooker!!! LOL) but thought the thread might be useful to others.

Any MSE folk who maybe have..... ordered something from Currys, phoned the night before and got their delivery time. Then such a person might think that it is OK to pop out for a bit, to a mate's house or to the shops. After all Curry's has their number and they've promised to call half an hour before delivery.

A person could miss their delivery easily.

Now because of this thread they know they're better off staying in :)

I thought that some phones did have better reception than others - example my work phone and personal phone are both on the same network. Work phone is a cheap nokia, and seems to pretty much always have worse reception than my personal phone.
  • This could happen with any company, It's not just a Currys specific problem

It happens to Comet as well.

Sometimes you just cannot get a reception on the company phone and end up having to use your own

Of course, it is entirely reasonable to suspect that perhaps the driver just couldn't be bothered to call you ;)

What network they use can drastically affect the coverage in certain areas too.

There are some buildings here that you cannot get a signal on any network apart from Orange when inside, but outside any network is fine, for example.
  • I've noticed Orange doesn't like hills!
