I'm buying car insurance online for my elderly grandparents from the RAC as they came out cheapest.
What I want to know is if they actually post out the documents in the post. As with them being old timers, they would rather have physical documents in their hands and not online documents.
I got stung when i bought their home insurance online last year through the AA where they never stated that the docs were online only until after I had paid.

Read up the policy and make sure it meets their requirements.
RAC have some differences from normal policies:
eg DOC cover is granted only to the main driver (irrespective of whether or not the main driver is the policyholder)
NCD is only accepted from AND only earned by the main driver (again irrespective of whether or not that is the policyholder)
You can print the docs off on line (or pay extra to get them through the post)0 -

How were you 'stung'? How is it a problem that documents are available online only? It is 2012, after all!0 -
Do you not have a printer ?0

I recently took out Motorcycle insurance with them, got all docs through the post. However the policy was actually provided by Equity Redstar, so maybe different for car.0

Hardly getting stung to have to access your docs on line!
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
Personally I'd advise you to avoid RAC like the plague - Incompetent and rather nasty about it.
And do not trust anything online form them - Keep all dealings on paper and keep proof of postage and copies. If my experience of them "losing" my entire insurance history with them and their way of dealing with it is in any way common, you will need hard evidence of everything because RAC are in no way inclined to take responsability for themselves. :mad:0 -

I wish people would read before replying.
I was buying insurance for old folk who do not have a computer or Internet access. Who still deal in real physical documents for everything.
The AA home insurance online documents were last year and they are no longer with them. Anyway it does not matter anymore as we have found them car insurance elsewhere with a better price WITH real documents.0 -

Thanks, didn't use RAC in the end as we got an even better price from LV.0 -

I did before replying, but I still fail to see where you were 'stung' - for example, did you pay a premium specifically to receive paper documents, and subsequently didn't receive any?0
