Car Dealers & Credit Card Surcharges
Options
Could someone clarify if buying a car from a car dealer has a standard credit card 'surcharge' - I have spoken to one company who state they "normally have a 1.5% credit card charge"
Is this standard throughout the UK?
I am just trying to keep my costs down as much as possible

I've had dealings with five over the past few years and without exception they all added a surcharge for credit card payments. I think two of them allowed a deposit payment by credit card but not any part of the balance.0

If your trying to keep costs down then buying a car on a credit card isn't the way forward, unless you are planing on transferring the balance on a 0% interest deal.
A surcharge is the norm though as dealers will be charged for the payment."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
Actually, if they are going to pass on the charge to the customer, 1.5% is a bit of a bargain for most vendor accounts.0

Bought a new car today, paid the deposit (£1000) by credit card. The dealer said they normally charge 2%, but waived it when I asked (never hurts to try).
PS Credit card fully paid off already - no interest charges, but I believe consumer credit protection applies (is this right?)Gas doc on the loose0 -
We ask for £100 deposit. If the customer pays this by CC then we wont charge them.
If they pay anything over £500 then we will charge them 2%.0 -
I should probably state I am looking to buy on a credit card purely to take advantage of spreading the cost over a longer period as the card has 15 months 0% interest on new purchases.Foxy-Stoat wrote: »If your trying to keep costs down then buying a car on a credit card isn't the way forward, unless you are planing on transferring the balance on a 0% interest deal.
