No questions here, just wanted to have a bit of a vent...
September 2011 - put flat on market through housing association (shared ownership); over next 3 months, 4 buyers pull out before 5th one sticks
December 2011 - view property, love it, make offer, offer accepted
February 2012 - vendors have offer accepted on end-of-chain house; complete sale of flat, move in with parents "for a few weeks"
March 2012 - vendors' purchase falls through due to knotweed in the garden
July 2012 - our mortgage offer expires
August 2012 - after months of nothing happening, vendors have offer accepted on another end-of-chain house; we proceed with conveyancing, surveys, new mortgage application (another £450 of fees); EA (same EA is acting for our vendor and for their vendor) notifies us after we've started spending money that there is a probate involved at the other end of the chain
September 2012 - we are told that probate has been applied for, or is mere days away from being applied for; we finish doing everything on our side and sign papers; today we are told that the probate application won't be made for another month (approximately) due to a complex estate and that as a result we will be lucky to exchange this year

Have you sold your flat then or are your buyers still waiting.

What a nightmare situation
We sold the flat in February and are living with my parents. That part isn't so bad to be honest, and we've been able to save up quite a bit of extra cash. But the uncertainty and lack of "having a home" has been really frustrating, and just when we thought we were close to the end we got another kick in the teeth!
I dread to think what would have happened if we'd tried to line-up our sale and purchase...
I need a beer.0 -
That's really, really rubbish. If I was trying hard to be positive I'd say that at least it sounds like everyone actually wants this to go through - it's not as if anyone is gazumping or gazundering or threatening to pull out or anything like that. As positive thoughts go, that's not a particularly good one, though. I recommend beer.0

Well, out of nowhere our sellers decided to break the chain and move into temporary accommodation (we had requested this twice previously), and we have exchanged today, completing at the end of the month :j:beer:0

That's good news-it must be such a relief for you. I hope you have many happy years in your new home.0

Hurrah! I hope that the rest of the process goes smoothly.0
