Garage Door problems

Anyone got any thoughts on how to fix this door ASAP?

Or how much it will cost to repair cable is in one piece but very loose.

  • I've had that happen in the past. I fixed it quite easily but can't remember exactly how. Involved getting the excess cable back onto the blue drum . . .

Not much help am I, but if you study the mechanism you should be able to suss it

had to fix this very problem on this very model of door just a few days ago.

You need to wrap the excess round the spindle, but as you get near the end of the slack, you will find the other side of the door will start moving, so you need to get someone to hold the other side, or use something to stop it moving.

As the cable is slack, make sure you don't allow it to detatch from the hook on the runner.

Very fiddly job, but worth persevering with so you know how to fix it next time it happens (it will happen again at some point!)

ps, how did this happen, did you, by any chance, shut the door with something in the way, or push it shut too hard just on one side?
These are the 2 ways i have caused the same problem as this on my doors

I can get it so thats about half a wrap before it tight but cant get the past bit thogh. Did you twist the spindle carriage end.
  • how'd you get on? Did you manage to sort it yourself?

We have exactly the same problem on a similar door. No new cable required but took several hours to get the thing running smoothly again. Its not difficult but very tricky to get the cable in the runs. I think in the end we have to lever the cable over for the final bit before tightening.
  • the easiest way to get the last loop of the cable round the spindle is to lock off the upwards travel of the opposite vertical slider. Then, raise the side of the door that the problem is on. This will release the tension in the cable, as you have locked the other side and therefore the spring will not unwind.
