Electric Heating - Storage / Wet Central Heating

Storage density problem, just like the electric car.
It will work if you lose a room to 2,000 litres worth of thermal stores, having first re-inforced it to take two tonnes.
Or can find a couple of ounces of plutonium on ebay.cnA kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
In my point of view storage heater is an electrical heater normally it use to contain thermal energy during the evening time when load load electricity is available at very low cost, and releases it's heat during the day as per required and heat retaining clay bricks inside the storage heater are charged over night to store heat and release heat during the day.these systems are the0

When I was thinking about a wet system I was thinking, big tank or thermal store as they call it which heats up over night then gets pumped round the radiators like a gas system would.
This is quite reasonable if you have a large space, and especially if you can DIY a large insulated thermal store.
As others have mentioned - thermal storage needs volume.
Conveniently, a ton of water stores 1kWh per C rise. (ish).
Assuming you start out at 80C, and drop to 50, that's 30kWh per ton.
If your average heating need is 10kW, during the coldest periods, you need enough storage to store 18h*10 = 180kWh, or 6 tons.
This is a lot of water, but if you happen to be able to dig down safely, then it's not bad at all.
A cube 2 meters on a side or so (with insulation).
With 10cm of kingspan, the heat leak would be of the order of 400W.
(if under the house, a substantial fraction of this will go into the house)
It is however questionable that this would pay back, compared to purchasing storage heaters second hand.
New ones - maybe.0 -
With that weight let's hope the OP's flat is on the ground floor!!0

Tommy-g take a look at our website (google Spam Heating Systems) to learn more about ASHP technology. I maybe able to empty your pockets & bank using the MSE website as a sales vehicle, without the permission of the MSE team
