Halifax "booking you in".

Someone tell me if I am losing my mind here - but why are Halifax completely obsessed with making appointments?

Why do they make it so hard for existing customers to do simple things such as open another savings account?

First of all, its the fact that even as an existing customer, you will need to prove who you are over and over and over again. My branch has 4 copies of both my passport and 4 different bank statements; yet they still want some ID their photocopier can chew!

"Oooh, I don't know if i'll be able to fit you in for another hour"

or

"It can't be today; but I can book you in for another day?"

or if you go at the weekend

"Oh no, we can't do that, we don't have a space available for at least another 3 weeks".

But I get this *everytime* I go in there!!

When I walk into Halifax it just feels so frustrating. They seem so seriously understaffed, or maybe they are just disorganised. I can walk to into Nationwide and Lloyds and they will open an account for me there and then, ot after a short wait if its busy.

Perhaps its the fact that at Halifax one simple click of a button on their computer and the account is open - and the form for you to sign is printed automatically.

But alas, they want to book me into some 30 minute slot at some point.

And it wasn't as if the branch was busy either... it was virtually empty!

I quite agree, I went in to open the Monthly Saver (after seeing it naturally recommended on this site). I could not just open a new account. Eventually when I managed to sit down with a member of staff she bought up my other accounts with the Halifax and then still proceeded to ask me for my identification which she duly copied. Apparently the money laundering aspect seems to apply to us opening an account with £10.00. I even had to do this to open my son's account with £1.00. What worries me more is how to they dispose of all this information, I mean to say they have enough information on those photocopies, very worrying.
No Matter what you do there will be critics.
