Changing from a gas and electricity meter
Hi All
My girl friend currently pays for her gas and electric with a card via a meter and I would like to help her save money and time, by switching to Direct Debit and to the best value provider(s) available.
I've never encountered paying by meter before so wondered will most new providers happily take over with a DD scheme and if so, is the meter removed or just left where it is? Are there any attendant charges to this switch from meter to DD?
Is this a complicated process?
All advice is appreciated

Your girlfriend will need to contact her supplier and ask.
Different suppliers have different policies and terms/costs over allowing a PPM to be replaced by a credit meter.0 -
I work in the industry and as YoYoY says, each supplier will have different terms and costings. Some charge, some charge and then credit check you.
Best off is to contact her current supplier and see what they say. Use the old 'I am going to switch suppier if you don't' tactic if they are being unhelpful and you might be pleasantly surprised at how willing they are to help after that.
Good luck.0 -

Thanks for your reply
Good news EPL, Edf say they will remove the PAYG meter and install the normal PPM meter free of charge. EDF is also the second cheapest according to the MSE utility search, so all is well
