LOCOG refunded to a closed Card/Account

Hi All,

Not sure if this is right place to post this but beside myself with frustration and rage so hope somebody can help me here.

I applied for and 'won' 4 tickets for the Olympic Volleyball last year. Things happened and I was unable to attend so sold the tickets via the LOCOG and awaited the funds to refunded. Since having bought the tickets I had changed banks (from Barclays to Natwest) but LOCOG insisted they could only refund to the debit card I used at the time of purchase.

You can probably imagine where this is going. In a nutshell LOCOG say they sent the money to Barclays and have never received it back (they furthermore say that since they did send the money to the debit card used during purchase they are not legally responsible for anything that happens thereafter). Barclays meanwhile say they received the money but since the account was closed they just sent the money back to LOCOG again. LOCOG say they never received it back. And so it goes.

I have spent hours on the phone to both organisations and am literally not 1 inch closer to resolution. Clearly neither give a monkey's but as it's £400 I do. It seems I need to try a different approach, possibly with threat of legal action, but I don't know which of LOCOG/Barclay's is actually responsible for getting my money to me?

Can somebody please, for the love of God, help me?

Thanks in advance,

Glen

I'm not sure who should request this, you or Locog, but a request to the appropriate bank by the account holder to provide a full trace on the payment should help. :)

My guess is that Locog should obtain this from their bank.

The ongoing issue you may have is that, under the terms & conditions, the refund will only go back to the account from which it came. As it failed once, even if the money is found and another attempt made, it will almost certainly fail again unless you ask Barclays (and they agree) not to bounce back the credit.
  • I bet you a tenner that your money is sat on an "unapplied payments" account at LOCOG's bankers.
