Travel insurance for UK breaks

I'm planning on a pre-Christmas break in the UK. Normally I wouldn't worry too much about the weather in December but over recent years we've had quite a bit of snow. My question is does travel insurance cover hotel costs if we had to abandon our break because of bad weather?

We would be driving so wouldn't be able to blame any problems on public transport. The hotel costs are non-refundable and come to about £300.

I haven't taken any insurance out yet as I want to know if it's worthwhile. I've had a look on-line and they all mention if your transport is delayed/cancelled you can claim but does this cover car travel? As I can't find anything specific. Obviously if it's snowing heavily we won't want to travel but I wouldn't want to lose my money on the hotel.

Most online travel insurers put their policy docs online so that you can check the specific cover wording and exclusions.

You need a policy that covers cancellation due to 'adverse weather'. I think a company called JL Morris offer a policy.
