Ebay problems

Bought bedding on ebay for my son gone to wash it and put on new bed but the bedding is navy (gone white in places). I followed the manufacturers instruction.

It was an e-bay store can i return the goods? is there any legislation to say i can get my money back as the item is technically faulty?

Any advice on the matter would be much appreciated.

First contact the seller and ask them, they may just accept a return/exchange/refund.

If not, you should take it from there. Your rights depend on how it was sold. If brand new and perfect in packaging from a business seller then you have a right to a full refund and for the seller to pay for a return.

Anything differing from that your rights vary, but asking/telling the seller is always the place to start, it could be a one off fault that they don't know about and will be happy to sort.

  • Perhaps a quick message....
    Dear Seller,

Many thanks for the very quick delivery of the duvet cover.

I have washed the cover as per the washing instructions at XXc with non biological/biological washing powder and the colour has run/faded/insert appropriate.

The navy part has turned white in places. Would you like me to email you some photos? I look forward to hearing back from you.

    Best wishes,

    Buyer
  • Just wondering if its the washing powder rather than the quilt. A while ago I used washing powder tablets on some dark clothes. The result was that the brightners in the tablets bleached the colour out of some dark t shirts, shirts and a dressing gown. All the items had white patches on them. I wrote to the washing powder company concerned and they asked for evidence (which I provided). They came back with a cheque for compensation for my ruined clothes as it was infact the washing powder that caused the white marks.

Of course OP, it could simply be a case that the dye in your bedding wasn't very stable. Hope you get it sorted. :)

I have been in the situation as a seller with a product with a colour run. Much like a buyer, I assumed that the product purchased was ok to resell. I doubt there's any small retailer who would go to the trouble of checking a product by washing it before committing to buy.

So it's likely the seller doesn't know about it, they really won't get very far on Ebay if they did.

As for soap powder issues, that could be possible. As a money saving tip, use soap nuts (look them up on here ad on Ebay), they're one of the world's hidden secrets.
