Since the initial post, I checked with OH and he confirmed that it was the ballcock that was replaced! Perfectly rational.
Thank you. So the limescale possibility is a non-starter.

In your first post you said that he had changed "something" which implied that you didn't know what it was. In the second only 11 minutes later you said he had changed the ballcock. The two sentences were in conflict with one another and that conflict was what needed radtionalising. I wasn't trying to imply that the statement wasn't rational LoL.

So either the arm is fouling on something or the float has water in it or the float needs adjusting on the end of the arm so that the valve actually closes. I'm inclined to think the last one.

As you can't get into the loft call the guy you have already paid to do this job and fetch him back to finish it.

    Cheers

hi im having a similar issue with the hot water feed tank at home (just drips tho) has the rod on the ball valve been bent sidewards to make it fit in the tank? if so it can cause problems as instead of a push up motion its a push up and to the side motion causing sealing probs

and for the morons who dis this yr welcome to have a look at my feed tank
    If it looks like this:

    27627_P

then it hasn't been bent to fit the tank. Its a Part 2 valve which is what should have been fitted.

Lower the float on the arm so that the valve closes earlier.

    Cheers

  • if you have to bend the arm sideways to make it fit in the tank then it's fitted in the wrong place, oh dear does this make me a moron ?

the moron reference was aimed at the people who just post in order to have a go...poke fun and generally be a bunch of !!!!s
would you include yourself amongst this group of people?

you're probably right in that its fitted in the wrong place i merely posted as i had a similar issue with a ball valve where the plumber had bent the rod........................might have helped might not have but its something to have a look at

my mistake thinking someone was looking for advice!

no its been bent almost where the arm enters the valve, the position of the ball is not adjustable on the one i have fitted.....a proper bodge job

    thanks anyway

advice is always good after all that's why we are all here

your post did have a sense of anger about it though

if it doesn't look like the one KS posted & it is a metal arm with the float at the end then it's a part 1 ballvalve & the wrong one for a roof tank it should be a part 2 ballvalve (as seen in the pic)
